Nadia Petrova wants to break into the Top-10 players of the world – Tennis News
Former world number three, Nadia Petrova, has stunned everyone with a win against the sixth seed Aussie superstar, Samantha Stosur, in the third round of the Indian Wells. She marched into the fourth round of the contest to face-off
her compatriot, Maria Kirilenko but was defeated in a gruelling three-setter to let her opponent through to the quarter-finals of the mega event.
A love for the spot in the Top-10 is once again ignited in the Russian tennis ace and she wants to be in the limelight. She aims to achieve her goal by the end of the year. Talking about her wish to break into the Top-10 players
again, she stated, “I really want to get back into top 10 that would be great.”
She wants to fight against the reigning world number one, Victoria Azarenka and the third ranked Czech, Petra Kvitova. She desires to be the high seed player in the upcoming tournament and for that she has to climb up a number
of ranks. She further added, “I have been out of that category of players for a couple of years now, and it would be a nice thing for me to challenge the new players, like (Petra) Kvitova and (Victoria) Azarenka.”
Petrova is now 29-years-old. She has won six Women Tennis Association titles in her career and looks to add few more in the coming days. She has no plans of retiring from the tennis circuit and plans to be amongst the young top
guns. She added, “I do feel like I'm pushing towards the end of my career but I still know that I have a couple good years left so I want to maximize that.”
It is high time for her to regain form and make a startling comeback that will reap her several titles. She has played seven matches in 2012 with an even record of 3-4. She hasn’t defeated a supreme player except the Aussie starlet
who might be the first in the list of victims.
The most recent title that the Russian has won was way back in Washington last year. Other than that, she was unable to craft victories. It has been a long time coming and her new coach, Ricardo Sanchez, has emphasized on enhancing
the self-belief that has been lacking. It has been just one month that Sanchez has taken this job and he has already created a terrific impact. It might be a turning point in the Russian’s career.
