Nadzmi Salleh says hot seat brings a huge pressure for corporate figures – Badminton News
Datuk Seri Nadzmi Salleh, who has been serving as President of Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) for last many years, is going to leave the seat before the annual meeting of the governing body, which will take place on July
27. However, he said that Badminton’s corporate figures will avoid taking this huge responsibility to revive the standard of badminton in Malaysia.
Salleh himself is a corporate figure and he served BAM for almost 13 years that enabled him to speak about the current scenario in a better way. He said that the pressure will be huge for anyone who becomes BAM president.
While talking about the new candidate for the seat of president, Salleh said that the BAM is open to for all talented people who are already working under this body.
He said, "We are open to anyone who is capable, whether within the association or a corporate figure but it is really hard to identify the candidate. BAM's two deputies are also seen as contenders and they, too, have not stated
anything openly and it is going to be a tough choice for us as my decision not to seek re-election is final as I want to focus on my new role as president of Badminton Asia Confederation."
BAM’s current deputy president, Al Amin Majid, has also indicated that he would rather prefer working on the same position and showed his lack of interest for the hot seat.
He said, "I have said many times I am not interested in the top spot and I am comfortable with this position.”
However, he also declared that it is the council that will make the decision and they can also nominate him. However, he believes that the council will find the right person for the post of President of BAM.
Badminton in Malaysia has reached to an alarming condition as there are not many top players who could serve like World Number One Lee Chong Wei, and top Men’s Doubles players Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong. So, the new president
will be under pressure to deliver by reviving the status of badminton in Malaysia, which is definitely a daunting task.
