Nadzmi is optimistic to find young blood through the national junior programmes – Badminton news
Nadzmi Mohd Salleh, the president of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), is optimistic to find young blood through the national junior developmental programmes.
Kamal Harun, the Corporate Manager of F&N Beverages Marketing Sdn Bhd, is confident that the national junior programmes will continue producing new talent on consistent basis, which will become a part of the national squad in their particular categories.
“Many of the current national players are graduates of the junior circuit. It has been a perfect avenue for the BAM to unearth new talent and we are happy to be part of this,” said Harun.
For finding the new talent from around the country, the governing body is focusing on the upcoming event of 100 Plus National Junior Circuit GP Finals, which will take place at Juara Stadium, in Malaysia, from Wednesday May 18. Nadzmi also appreciated the
financial support of 100 Plus for the junior development programmes.
The performance of the shuttlers will be closely evaluated especially in the Boy’s Singles category. The major reason is that Malaysia has only one shuttler in the form of Lee Chong Wei, who is winning titles at international level. Besides Chong Wei, no
other shuttler is capable of competing at the highest level of the game.
The coaches of Bam will closely watch the performance of the youngsters at GP Finals to identify and select best performers. These young shuttlers will be provided world class training facilities by the BAM to transform them into world class players.
The World Number One, Chong Wei, has announced that he is expected to retire from the international arena of badminton after the 2012 London Olympics. After the top seed, there will not be any other shuttler to replace him as there is huge skill gap between
Chong Wei and rest of the shuttlers in the Men’s Singles category.
In the National Junior Circuit GP Finals, Zulfadli Zulkifli will be the shuttler to watch out in the Under-18 category. He has clinched both previous legs and is optimistic to win the upcoming event as well.
