Nadzmi urges national coaches to prove their craft in 2012 London Olympics – Badminton News
Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) called for an emergency coaching and training committee meeting to explore the reasons of shameful Thomas Cup outing and directed their coaching staff to make amends in 2012 London Olympics.
This high profile meeting was attended by president BAM Datuk Seri Nadzmi Salleh, secretary general Ng Chin Chai who also is chairman of coaching and training committee, Datuk James Selvaraj from High Performance Team and the team manager of Thomas Cup Finals
Datuk Sayed Abu Bakar Abdullah.
The dignitaries had a detailed discussion over Malaysia’s recent failures and its prospects in coming edition of the mega event.
After presiding this meeting, Nadzmi stated that national coaches should equip themselves with modern techniques. He urged them to employ all of their skills to guide Olympic campaigners to new heights.
He said, "The coaches must try to prepare Lee Chong Wei, Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong and Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying (mixed doubles) as best they can."
Later, he excluded chance of immediate changes in structure of national body as he briefed that London Olympics is just two months away and unnecessary move can disturb preparations of the mega event.
However, he admitted that Thomas Cup Finals has made them to modify their ongoing training programmes as other countries have taken their badminton to the next level.
Nadzmi said, "We have to keep monitoring our competitors and regularly upgrade and we cannot prepare in isolation. The Thomas Cup has given us a fair picture of how the other teams have progressed."
In recently concluded Thomas Cup Finals, Malaysia failed to achieve its target of making at least into the semi-finals. They flew back home after facing a 3-0 defeat from China in quarter-final round.
This failure gave birth to a new debate that whether BAM should continue with their current set-up or its officials should leave association and give chance to new people.
Though, President BAM tagged their meeting as a routine activity but he must have felt the heat as he announced that governing body has examined the reason of this collapse and they will leave no stone unturned to revive country’s status in the arena.
