Ruhuna Royals 134 (20/20 ov) v Nagenahira Nagas 77/2 (12.0/12 ov, target 73) - Nagenahira Nagas won by 5 runs (D/L method)
The Sri Lanka Premier League finally kicked off on Saturday, as fans witnessed the first match between Nagenahira Nagas and Ruhuna Royals, at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.
However, later in the day the game was interrupted by rain forcing the outcome of the match to be decided by the D/L method, with Nagenahira Nagas winning the match by five runs.
Ruhuna Royals won the toss and chose to bat first as they wanted to begin their SLPL campaign by posting an impressive tally on the board.
However, they failed to gain an upper hand with openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/HAPW-Jayawardene-c1529 clobbering only a stand of 15 runs before Nagas made inroads by dismissing Finch on a score of 14.
Jayawardene was then joined by DJ Harris as the two batsmen tried to steer their side towards a respectable tally.
With a score of 37, the batting side saw their second wicket go down when Jayawardene was trapped in front of stumps after hitting a knock of 15 runs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/HDRL-Thirimanne-c1542 then heavy-handed the bowlers and took the score to 57, before RMS Eranga hit timber and dismissed Harris on a knock of 19 off 18 balls.
The demise of the batsman brought http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 on the crease, as his arrival triggered chants of “Boom Boom”, with fans going ballistic on the sight of the hard-hitting batsman.
The all-rounder played a fiery knock of 18 runs off 12 deliveries which included a six before losing his wicket on a run out. At the time of this wicket, Ruhuna Royals had amassed a total of 98 runs.
The partnership between Thirimanne and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LPC-Silva-c1848 then steered the team to a total of 120, but after this the batting side suffered a terrible batting collapse, with the bowlers preventing the remaining batsmen from scoring freely.
The side consequently faltered after amassing 134 runs in 20 overs with Thirimanne as their top batsman for hammering 34 runs.
The Nagas then requiring 73 runs in 12 overs to win the match, reached the target for the loss of two wickets.
