My two year old will not stop biting her nails. They are getting to the start of the nail bed and she still wants to keep biting. I've tried Bitter nail polish and tabassco sauce..she actually likes them both! Please help..I'm worried she will get an infection and have deformed nails when she grows up!!

  1. When my 2 year old was nail biting and wouldn't stop per verbal warning, she got a swat on the hand and put in the corner until she did what I asked her to do.

I think the main problem with parents is that they don't see the core of the problem, which is a lack of instilling discipline in their children.

She wasn't being a bad child when she was biting her nails. When you asked her to stop, and she continued, she's now being a disobedient child, and THAT is what you're correcting.

  2. just try to pay attention to when she does it and distract her. Maybe give her something to keep her hands busy. The more you point it out the more she will do it. Try to distract her to get her to stop rather than always nagging her to stop. If she does it a lot while watching Tv then limit TV a lot and give her something to do with her hands while watching it. good luck

  3. I had to tie gloves on mine. You have to have several of them to change them for washing and make sure it's not to tight to harm them, but tight enough they can't pull them off. It is a real pain in the butt, but it is the only thing I tried that actually worked. After about a week it was done with. If you decide to do it this way be sure and stop her right away if you see her put her fingers in her mouth after wards.  I kept them on him 24/7 even at night time. I took them off only for baths and if we went some where besides our families house.

It may sound crazy, but it really works.
