Nailing a board onto a loquat fruit tree.

hi there, if i was to nail a board with steel nails onto a loquat live tree half way up the trunk will it kill it? also once i remove the nails what should i use to cover the nail holes with ? i would like to hear from people that are experienced with such matters, please no quessing here. thank you all

  1. Ring barking a tree will harm it but putting a few nails in wont as the nutrients/water will still be able to move up the tree. No need to cover the holes with anything after you remove them, the tree will heal on its own.


  2. Actually you can open the tree up to infection by nailing into it. I would, at the very least, treat the nails with a fungicide and after removing them treat the holes and then seal them with grafting wax or something similar.
