Nairn, Scotland, set to stage Curtis Cup - Golf news
Nairn is set to host the much-hyped Curtis Cup this year, with plenty of work being carried out on the course.
Nairn Golf Club, which is located in Scotland, is one of the best golf courses in the world and its selection for the prestigious Curtis Cup highlights its worth among LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association).
According to persons affiliated with the Club, the preparations for event are just about complete and the go-ahead for the formal start of the event will be given once the officials are informed.
Since the Club is hosting an event known for its competitiveness and worth among players, officials and management had to arrange renovation work.
The 3-year project took a considerable time, as there were several factors that the officials took into account while preparing the course.
With 60 bunkers built, Nairn is going to be the perfect spot for world class golf.
Officials revealed that the project got a bit delayed, as it was scheduled to be completed this February, but the construction work and revamping dragged on longer than expected.
Officials said that although the project was quite extensive, they did the work sooner than many critics think.
They said the moment they received confirmation that players from Great Britain and Ireland are going to confront their rivals from the United States, the construction work picked up pace.
Manager of the course, Iain Carson told that in order to get things ready for the Curtis Cup, the officials worked a tough schedule, making sure the project completes before the Cup trial session.
"We started planning as soon as we knew the Curtis Cup was coming to Nairn. As soon as we knew, we started formulating what we wanted to do to ensure the whole course would be in tip-top condition come June,” Carson said.
He went on to say that one of the main reasons for the Club officials to complete the work on time is that the area did not get snow this season.
He said that there have been some additions in the features of the course.
“Because we haven’t had the snow we had during the last two seasons, we’ve been able to get a lot more done. For instance, more bunkers have been revetted and we’ve been able to get on with work on the greens, tees and fairways,” he stated.
