Newly signed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Naismith-c34205 was booming with confidence, following his hat-trick against AEK Athens on Wednesday, and was raring to have a go in the Toffees season opener against Manchester United.
The Scottish International got his Goodison Park career off to flyer, as he fired a treble in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tony-c35440 Hibbert’s testimonial game against the Greek side. It was his first home appearance for Everton.
Earlier, the talented striker joined the Merseyside club in July, following the liquidation of his former employers, Glasgow http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314.
However, lifted from his phenomenal performance against Athens – which saw him bag three goals inside the first half – Naismith has now set his sight on the Toffees opener against Manchester United, on the 20th of August.
The 25-year old revealed that he was hungry for goals ever since he arrived at Merseyside, and was desperate to make an impression in the ‘best’ footballing league in the world.
Hibbert’s testimonial game was the striker’s first professional appearance in almost ten months. He suffered a serious knee injury in October last year, which ruled him out of action for the remainder of the term.
He is reported to have said, “My appetite has been there since the day I signed. I am coming to play in the best league in the world and with me coming back from injury and playing again I have probably enjoyed pre-season more than most players might.”
“Hopefully I can do enough to get in the starting XI.”
Naismith’s first goal came inside the first minute of the match, after http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marouane-Fellaini-c24295 linked up nicely to set up the opportunity for the former Rangers hit-man.
Commenting on the goal, the Scottish footballer hailed Pienaar’s presence of mind for picking up his run, and spraying the pass in his way.
He also believed that given the quality and the depth in the Toffees squad, he will be getting plenty of more chances in the coming season.
“When you come to a club like this with real quality then you will get chances, and if I can take a few of them then I will be happy,” he added.
