Nalbandian/Schwank outlast Lopez/Verdasco in third rubber – Davis Cup World Group Final 2011
Flaring up with the third rubber of Davis Cup World Group Final 2011, David Nalbandian teamed up with Eduardo Schwank for Argentina to play their doubles match against Feliciano Lopez and Fernando Verdasco or Spain on Saturday,
3rd December 2011. Capturing the rubber with a straight set 6-4, 6-2, 6-3 win over the Spanish team, Argentineans captivated their first win of the final and saved their eventual loss.
Playing at the Olympic Stadium in Seville, Spain, the two South Americans combined technique overpowered the finalists with mere difficulty. The Clay surface was another advantage other than the home ground for the Spanish team;
however, the well experience had success all the way.
Carrying on with the rubber, the two teams walked down the court and followed with the service toss and the warm up.
Winning the toss, the Spaniards served for the first set opener, turning down the scoreboard to lead the set, 1-0. South Americans replied with an instant winner evening up the scores at 1-1. Moving on, the two rival teams bagged
a game each to level up at 2-2 before the Argentineans struck.
Winning a double breakpoint winner, team Argentina took the lead bagging game five, 3-2, and served out game six to extend their lead to 4-2. After that the South Americans maintained their lead and served out two out of the last
four games to captivate the first set, 6-4.
Moving on, Lopez/Verdasco took the first serve of the second set, however, could not succeed towards a winner. Breaking early, team Argentina bagged the first four games straight break-serve-break-serving to lead, 4-0. The Spaniards
did cut back the lead, however, could not break back to level up. Eventually, serving out two out of the last four games, the Argentine team pocketed set two to form a commanding lead over the Spaniards.
For the second time in the rubber, team Spain served the set opener and fell short of capturing a winner. Breaking early again, Nalbandian/Schwank took the lead as they captured the first two games to lead 2-nil. Spaniards won
their first game, game three, however, could not get a breakpoint to level up.
Bagging games next of respective serves, the scoreboard turned down to 5-3 with the Spaniards to serve for game nine. The scenario changed sooner than thought as Nalbandian/Schwank broke their rival team in game nine finishing
off the set at 6-3 and winning the rubber with a straight set victory.
Winning their first match, team Argentina requires another win in order to stay in competition, however, with the top Spaniard playing the next rubber; it is hard to predict a win for the Argentineans.
