Nam Phan vs. the unbeaten Jimy Hettes at UFC 141 – UFC Preview
The featherweight division in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has seen various fighters take their stance as the best. At UFC 141, to be held on December 30, 2011, the featherweight bout scheduled on the main card is between American mixed martial
art (MMA) fighters Nam Phan and Jimmy Hettes.
Hettes would focus on taking an early lead in the fight with some great blows and punches. He would concentrate on using Phan’s weaknesses to get into his head. Phan would also know his drawbacks for he has been on a losing run for quite a long time.
In his last ten fights, Phan has won 5 and lost the same number of bouts. Pham’s opponent, on the other hand, has been unbeaten since his entrance into the MMA. He began his career in June 2009 and has won all 9 of his fights, giving him a clear chance to
win the fight at UFC 141.
But Hettes should not be overconfident for his straight victories as Phan is the fighter with a higher experience under his belt. Although Phan has been losing his matches but with seventeen wins in his MMA career, he would be the one with more insights
of how to carry out a fight inside the cage.
Looking at the fighter’s striking, submission and takedown percentages, there is a clear difference between the two. Phan has an eight percent striking rate while Hettes seldom strikes, for he has a 1 percent rate. Hettes normally grapples or takes down
his opponent before using his submission move.
In terms of take downs, Phan is the weaker fighter for securing 7 percent wins while Hettes has a fifty-six percent winning rate with his take downs. He has also shown his ability for swift take downs in all of his previously fought bouts.
When talking about submissions, Phan is again the fighter with a lower ratio. He has a thirteen percent rate of using his submission moves successfully while Hettes has used his submission manoeuvres with a forty-three percent success rate. Phan would desperately
need a win at UFC 141 to take his UFC career to a steady path while Hettes would not want to end his unbeaten run.
