2) Because its a great way to bash the evil and mean United States of America

3) Because everyone would rather drive a Prius than my gas guzzling H2 Hummer (with custom wheels, leather seats, and a kick-@$$ stereo!).

The cause is mostly us, creating greenhouse gases.  About 10% is the sun.  Verified, peer reviewed data here;

It threatens to cause severe coastal flooding and damage to agriculture.  Rich countries can cope, but it will cost huge sums of money and damage their economy.  In poor countries many people (not all) will die of starvation.  More here:
