I changed my Son's name back to minewhen myself and his father split up. I did this by Deed Poll and cannot find the papers or remember which Solicitor I used. Everything my son has is with my family surname apart from his passport and birth certificate which obviously are his fathers.

He needs to open a Bank Account but they will not open it in my family surname even though I have Medical Card, NI Card, Child Benefit Documents etc... they are saying it has to opened in the name of the passport.

Is there anyway of tracing Deed Poll Documents ?

  1. deedpoll.org should help.

They can help you trace your sons record.

  2. I am pretty sure the solicitor or the deed poll department could find the information for you. Things have moved on a bit now, as you can go to the register office where the birth was registered and change your name by Deed Poll there, it costs £40:00 and there is no need for a solicitors involvement.

I would have though the birth certificate would have been the main requirement to open a bank account.

  3. Well, I always tell folks to let people know what Country you are from to give accurate information. But, fortunatley enough i'm assuming that you are from the UK or surrounding are here is a link with information obtaining your previous documents:

    http://www.deedpoll.org.uk/

  4. go onto the site deed poll and contact them im sure they can help with the documents ect.. you proberly might have to pay to get new ones sent out to you.

    good luck  ÃƒÂ¢Ã‚™Â¥

  5. Any person residing in the UK can change their name by Deed Poll to whatever they wish, but unfortunately when it comes to any legally binding documents, the name which has to be used is the name registered on the birth certificate.

Regretably, my friend, I have to advise you that any amount of money can be spent in tracing the Deed Poll documents but the bank still will not accept the change of name on such documents for opening a bank account.
