Question:

Name Change on all documents except Passport? (Australia)

My husband and I recently married and I would like to have my surname changed to suit his.

Is it possible to have my name changed on all Documents (i.e Medicare, Driving license, bank accounts etc) except my Passport which will retain my maiden name? Will there be any problems with Identification? Can the Marriage Cert be sufficient as proof of name change?

P.S: We have dual citizenship; Malaysia/Australia.

Thanks in advance.

  1. My friend had this issue when she was divorced. She changed her name back to her pre-,marriage name, but alas didnt change her passport.

She planned to goto Bali but they would not issue her a ticket because the passport was different to her other ID. Best bet is to change it all or change none.

  2. You need not change all the documents but always attach the marriage certificate if necessary.  Use the surname of your husband in documents that are being renewed but the change will need the presentation of the marriage certificate.
