Name Change or Transfer of Entire Group to New Group?

I have a support group that is about 10 years old. In this time, we have out grown our original name which is very specific, but this support group is recognized and hyperlinked in many places for victims of abuse. I would rather leave this site up with a note to need members to go to a new site we created. But we there is a problem. I want to transfer all of the files, polls, members and so on from the original group without hours of work and so on. Can this be done in yahoo.

  1. PG Offline and Guru's Group Downloader are choices of free software- each take time but they say less work then actually copying and transfering all that info- maybe one of these will do the trick for you

  2. Since your group has been successful under the same Name and group address (URL) for so many years and is linked to important outside abuse prevention sources, this is what I suggest:

Leave the group where it is with the very same URL and do not start or transfer content to a new group.  As you already recognize, there are numerous reasons for making the change.

Instead, you can change the Title that appears on the group's home page.  Example:  Change the title from "City Abuse Victims" to "Survivors of Abuse" .

To change the group's title without changing the URL,

    Sign in to the group.

    Click management.

Under Group Settings, click on Description & Appearance.

To the right of Description, click Edit.

In the field to the right of Title, delete what is in the field and type in the title as you want it to appear on the home page.

    Click Save Changes.

Then on the group home page, you can edit the description and add a note referencing the change in the group title to avoid any confusion.

  3. Dear Joan K,

I read your complete question. I saw different help options with the Yahoo group settings. I am not able to help you.

However I would suggest you to send your issue to the Yahoo Group Help/support team.

    I am sorry.
