The British seaside has been in decline as a visitor location since the sixties and the introduction of cheap package tours to Spain etc. Many coastal communities have been decimated by this. Cornwall as a county has suffered hugely because of the money the tourists brought in and the amount of jobs that were centered around the tourist industry. Many British Seaside resorts are trying to replace themselves in the market, going either up or downscale. A current trend is to market themselves on nostalgia. The idea being to offer to parents the golden years of their own childhood, for their own children.
