I really liked ''Mamma Mia''. Very refreshing, beautiful shots of the Greek sea and islands. Meryl Streep is amazing, as always. Nice music and songs by Abba.

i really liked Captain Corelli's Mandolin, i just loved the story of it, i thought it was so romantic and also it represented the Greek cultre quiet well on those times..

I liked most  "Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life" with Angelina Jolie :) :) :) LOL

and many scenes that were shot on the island of Santorini.

Unfortunately there are not many recent movies taking place in Greece :( and it's our fault also!

In the end of the first movie of Jason Burne, there are some great, plane shots of Mykonos. It was a nice surprise to see that!

I just remembered one older movie I saw on TV, it was filmed in Greece and the whole story was happening in Greece. The title was "Arising from the shadow" or something like that. Nothing famous, just a TV movie, probably about 20 years old, but I liked it anyway.

Zorba the Greek!  Anthony Quinn was fantastic in that movie, of course the novel on which the movie was based was already well known as a brilliant work of literature by Nikos Kazantzakis

I still remember the wisdom of Zorba:

I liked "Mamma Mia" too, for the same reasons.

I also liked last year's production of "Fishtales" with Billy Zane&Kelly Brook. It takes place on the Greek Island of Spetses and it's an unpretentious easy piece. I like it because it's void of too many exaggerations in portraying the local Greek characters, which is usually done to meet the Hollywood standards and the typical American viewer's mindset.

The scenery in the film may not be spectacular, but it's authentic and warm.

Other than greek films which iam a huge afficiando.and they did make some great films...like all the finos films...great classics..JAMES BOND..YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE/ GUNS OF NAVARONE/ CLOSING SHOT OF BOUNRE IDENTIY/ NEVER ON SUNDAY MELINA MECOURI/ CAPTAIN CORELLIS MANDOLIN/ THE LAST SUMMER/  ZORBA THE GREEK/ ELLENI/ Z/ YOUNG APHRODITIE / O MAGUS ANTHONY QUINN/MEDUSA/ELECTRA/ GIRL IN BALCK/ and most recent ..MAMA MIA....which i havent seen yet!...from memorie they are most of the films filmed in greece.. might have missed a few.my FAVOURITE is  JAMES bond it got great shots of METOERA...

Of course "Mamma Mia" is the newest movie filmed in Greece, but I remember one old movie I´ve seen many times and that was " Never on a Sunday" with Melina Mercouri (I believe Anthony Quinn was the other well known actor in that film, could be mistaken).

If I remember correctly it won many film prizes. The song from the movie by the same name, sung by Melina Mercouri herself, can still be heard now and then.
