It would be really good if you know someone who is not commonly known. (not Martin Luther king jr. or rosa parks, etc.)

  1. Thurgood Marshall

    Marcus Garvey

  2. What about Charles Dickens.  Oliver Twist, Nicholas Nickelby, Little Dorrit, David Coperfield.  Dickens's characters come from all sections of society in the Victorian age.  He doesn't condemn the rich and doesn't condemn the poor.  He shows vividly the injustice of Victorian society and he did actually make people think hard about a very unjust world.  The pen is mightier than the sword!

Another writer who who wrote much about social injustice was my fellow countryman, Robert Burns.  'A man's a man for a' that.'  Regardless of rank or wealth. 'Rank is but the guinea stamp, a man's a man for a' that.'

And what about Mark Twain?  He is sometimes mocked for his sentimentality .. not without occasional good reason ... but he openly saw black people as fellow human beings.

Finally; what about Jesus Christ?  I am not a Christian ... I am an aethiest ... but Jesus Christ certainly was a force against social injustice.

  3. Oscar Romero.  He was one of the first liberationists of the Catholic Church in Central America.  There is a movie titled "Romero" about his life and struggles.
