  1. Bi-lingual teahing:

Teaching both in the native spoken language of their country and also the native sign language of their counrty. I think this promotes lip reading abilities as you are able to associate the shape of the mouth with the sign.

    Visual Teaching:

Using visual sources to teach. Instead of using voice, tapes/cd's you use books, computer's, boards, sign, pictures, etc.

    Aide/Interpreter/:

If a student is hard of hearing they may be able to hear someone who is sitting next to them but not the teacher so they could have an aide sit next to them repeating the teacher's instructions. If they use sign language and are too far away from someone to lip read (or can't lip read) they will need verbal messages interpreted in to sign for them, the teacher will possibly also need any signed messages they need to say interpreted back in to verbal as well.

  2. sign language

    lip reading/verbal language

    total communication-combination of sign/verbal

  3. Oralism: teaching speech and use of residual hearing (list of schools) http://www.oraldeafed.org/schools/index....

Bi-Bi: as partially described by the other writers, acceptance of Deaf culture/teaching English as a second language instead of putting down natural ASL language of the Deaf.

Total Communication: using signs, speech, audition, gestures, writing, pictures.

Deaf community is advocating Bi-Bi. Hearing people of course, promoting oral or T.C. On going battles everywhere.

Parents have to do what's best for their individual child.
