  1. Take your pick:  Habitat fragmentation, urban sprawl, overgrazing, exotic species, the general public's loss of interest in outdoor recreation, finances, the list goes on and on.


  2. The proliferation of invasive species displaces and/or outcompetes native species and can reduce biodiversity.

    Habitat loss, fragmentation and degradation is resulting in habitat islands.  Species with a greater range, i.e. mountain lions, and specialized species like the Least Bell's Vireo and the cactus wren are greatly impacted.

    Google the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and The Nature Conservancy if you need more information.

  3. Monsanto.

    It's a biggie.  I don't even know if you need a second.

  4. Habitat destruction is the biggie, both from direct human intervention like logging and from indirect causes, like global warming, invasive species, etc.

    Overharvesting is another, and is particularly devastating to ocean ecosystems.
