  1. As much as a TV is really cheap, it might be really crappy if it breaks. Keep in mind if you break a Sony, you will have more of a chance of getting a easy repair rather than having to buy a new TV because you cannot get repair parts for it.  And also keep in mind with Plasmas if you break the panel, you might as well buy a new TV if you don't have a contract for it.

  2. They're cheap because you can't get parts to repair them....

So what are you going to do when your power supply goes out on it?

You'll buy another one...and by the time you pay for another, you'll have the same IF NOT MORE money into the Visio TV sets....

That's why I recommend Panasonic Plasmas, they last a good long time

  3. Do not buy Vizio.

Service is next to impossible with these sets because:

    1. Parts availability, with exception of some industry standard components, is poor.

    2. Service data is essentially non-existent.  Without the proper service literature and data, repairs will be very difficult to perform.  It may even be impossible if servicing the set requires adjustments to be made and you have no data that tells you how to do it, where the test points are, and what standard to adjust the set to.  It may also be impossible to fix a problem without data to tell you how the circuit is supposed to work, such as schematic diagrams.

    3. There is no service network for Vizio sets.  You will be expected to ship the television back to Vizio in the event a warranty claim must be made, and it may be at your expense!  If the set is out of warranty, you will be out of luck.

Again, do not buy from cheap brands.  Save your money in the long term by buying a set from an established Japanese brand that will have a good support infrastructure to help you preserve your investment.

That's right: your television should be an investment with the ability to preserve it for as long as possible so as to allow you to get the most for the money spent. Sets, such as Vizio, tend to be rather expensive disposable commodities.

I recommend Sony, Pioneer, Sharp, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, or Toshiba.

The only Chinese/Taiwanese brand TV I'd ever get might be Proton (not to be confused with ProtRon, which renamed itself to Spectroniq after being sued by Proton because of brand confusion).  But, I'd still rather get a Sony over a Proton.

    Pretty much forget everyone else.

Note that few companies are still making plasma sets, such as Panasonic and Pioneer.  But, plasma sets have improved markedly, especially with Pioneer recently introducing a new generation of plasma sets, known as the Kuro line, that promise many improvements over older plasma sets, such as greater contrast ratio and better resistance to stationary image retention (or burn-in, if you will).

An LCD set will still deliver potentially superior reliability over a plasma, but the new generation of plasma sets that are out now are definitely very good and markedly improved, so they should bear consideration.

  4. All i know they sell a lot of them at costco and online stores, they look good.

  5. I wouldnt buy a plasma with algores money.  You might have noticed that companies have stopped making them--Sony Tosh and more.  Why?  Because they are far from being as reliable as LCDs.  I would buy a plasma for a bedroom set--unless you leave it on all night.  Vizio?  You can get parts most of the time if you go to the right service center.

  6. I have 2 vizios and they work great

  7. i bought the 47" lcd at wal-mart,,never had the first problem(only 6 months old) i would recomend the service plan, even thou it adds like 99$ to the price,,i would also not buy a plasma,,i thought the lcd was brighter and less "motion blur"

i would recomend "looking" at the tv;s side by side ( i looked like 3 different days ) before i made my choice,,

    good luck! enjoy HD TV!

  8. Vizio makes some cheap tvs,not only in price but in overall quality. (LCD or Plasma)

I wouldn't recommend getting a: Vizio, Insignia,Element, Olevia, Magnavox, Polaroid, Westinghouse or Sanyo

The Big 10 LCD HDTV brands (best to worst):

Sony, Samsung, Sharp, Toshiba, LG, Philips, Mitsubishi JVC, Panasonic and Hitachi

Although they are all good, Samsung and Sony are the best by far!

For a Great plasma at a reasonable price, there's no question, Panasonic.

    Good Luck
