I posted this a few days ago, but I don't think you really got what I was looking for.

I just got a new horse. Her name's Little Bit but I thought that sounded more like a show name (or does it?) She's a 15.2hh chestnut mare. I'll be riding her as a hunter jumper and maybe dressage. Do you have an idea of what I can call her?

I wanted something that played off of her show name, but not bitsy or bits. Something.. cuter sounding. I was thinking maybe Tilli. It kinda plays off it... But idk. What do you think?

  1. I train horses to come when I whistle not when I call a name but I would go with something pretentious for a dressage horse maybe

Little Mrs Prescious  or  Dawsons Little Bit  something like that

  2. Lilly (my fav)

Billy (i no its a guys name but it could be cute anyways)

    Lee

    Tilly

    Leely

    Leela

    Lila

    Bianca

    Libby

...i can't really think of anything else that would work..sorry but i hope you like those anyways

  3. I like Tilly, it's cute...or maybe:

    Tiny

      Bee

      Little B

You could always just do something like:

      Baby

      Lady

Or i always look at the pet and a name comes to mind, and thats what i call them (like when i first get them) unless i already had a name in mind...look at a picture of her or her in person and just see what pops into your head...GOOD LUCK! and congratulations

  4. wat about Bitty,it kinda sounds like britty, or u could use britty

    or britt

  5. I agree with JJH - you should have learned what her barn name was when you got her as she's probably used to that.

But really, you're a mechanism for feed and care for that horse.  You could walk up to her and call her "Hey" and she'd respond to your voice.

So what's wrong with Bitsy?  I take offense  ;-)

I have a filly whom I wanted to name Lil Bit Rich, but the name was already taken.  Before I could figure out a name I liked that was available, Bitsy had stuck and now, although I didn't like it at first, she just doesn't fit any other pasture name - Bitsy will always be what she's called.

Many people can offer many different things and pasture names stick for different reasons.  I have a friends who's horse's pasture name is "Windy" because she passed gas a lot when young - now it's become "Wendy" which is no where near her registered name of Canyon's Country Girl.

So we could all suggest many names and there's jillions - how about you go get a book listing kids names and see what you get in there that you might like?

Just pick something you like and call her that - you yourself suggested "Tilli" - what's wrong with that? You like it, it fits her in your mind, that's it......

Try this - a friend one time had a horse who's registered name was 3 words.  I can't remember the exact name right now, but the first letters of each word were "FDR".  That reminded them of Franklin Delano Roosevelt so the horse's pasture name became "Frank".  Silly huh?

What about doing someting like that.  Little Bit = LB.  How about Libby? Lindy?

I'm bad at names too so I try all these gimmicks.  good luck and let us know when you pick an answer what name you chose and why - maybe it'll help others later on.
