Question:

Name instead of IP address?

I have set up an intranet site using WAMP and it is successfully running.

One has to type the IP address of the host machine. I do not want to type ip address. Is there any way of giving names? So that one can easily remember, like http://shivam0101/.

  1. You may be able to access the computer by using its computer name (from my computer properties, computer name tab) by using "http://computername/"

Or you could edit the hosts file:

Go to start and then run. Type the following (without quotes):

    "notepad c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts"

The hosts file should open in notepad.

Add the IP address and hostname you wish to use after the line with localhost.

    Save and close the file.

You may need to reboot for it to start working.
