I read this when i was young. I remember the main character was named Mabel. In the first book (at least that I read, there might have been earlier ones) Mabel and her best friend Sarah Jane move away from home to go to school. Following that, Mabel moves to a small town and becomes the school teacher, falls in love with the local minister, etc. I can't remember who wrote it or what the series is called, but any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

  1. Not sure if this is the same series your talking about but here's a link:

There a different authors who wrote the books and I'm not entirely sure this is the series that you're talking about but it's along the same line so I'm hoping that it at points you in the right direction.

If that's not what you're looking for here's another link that might be able to help you at least narrow down the search a little better:

  2. if this is a very very old book perhaps you are looking for, "the adventures of Mabel".

here, check out this wikipedia page and see if this is it.

I also remember some books like that, so i did a quick search. i hope this helps.

  3. That is The Grandma's Attic series by Arleta Richardson. My sister and I read the entire series when we were younger and loved it. There are a total of ten novels (that I know of) plus five companion books. The series of ten novels are 1. In Grandma's Attic; 2. More Stories from Grandma's Attic; 3. Still More Stories from Grandma's Attic; 4. Treasures from Grandma; 5. Away From Home; 6. A School Of Her Own; 7. Wedding Bells Ahead; 8. At Home in North Branch; 9. New Faces, New Friends; and 10. Stories from the Growing Years. The five companion books are 1. Christmas Stories from Grandma's Attic; 2. A Day at the Fair; 3. Grandma's Attic Cookbook; 4. Grandma's Attic Storybook; and 5. Letters from Grandma's Attic. They republished the books about eight years ago, so you should still be able to find new copies.

Arleta Richardson also wrote the Orphans Journey series, which is pretty good. It consists of four books.

Here's an article about Arleta Richardson:

And an Amazon link with most of the Grandma's Attic novels:

    Hope this helps!
