Name of fruit that dries mouth?

Question

i ate fruit at a party off a mixed fruit tray, it was orange and looked similar to mango, but was pre sliced so i didnt see the outside. as soon as i put it in my mouth, it felt as if all the saliva sucked out of my mouth, my tongue cheeks and teeth were all dry and "grippy". i dont think it was an allergic reaction, because other people had a similar experience. i dont even remember what it tasted like! someone said it was jackfruit, but i dont think so. does anyone know what this fruit is?!

You were eating an unripe persimmon.   It's kind of crazy how it does that, isn't it?  

A ripe persimmon is sweet and juicy.   An unripe persimmon is like something from another world.
