Name of restaurant person?

what do you call the person who checks your reservation when you walk into the restaurant? do they have a special name? (like the best chef is head chef...) idk

  1. That is the matrede'. That is if the movies are correct.


  2. In my town (and I live in New York) we call them Dearsusies. They all love it and they have given us discounts multiple times. Just go up and say "Hello Dearsusie. Can I have a reservation for" or whatever lol.

  3. In the more upscale restaurants that person would generally be male and called a Maitre d'  or headwaiter.  In the more casual establishment this would be, of course, the host or hostess.
