lets be frank, every anti virus have its own advantage and weakness,

i must admit, using a reliable anti virus program, weather it's free or paid helps you a lot to avoid virus.(using a good browser also helps) however, there's only one thing which is the best, it's no other than you, yourself.

there are many guides on line on how to avoid virus, you should read them.

use your common scene and knowledge! nothing beats it!

Every antivirus consists of advantages and weakness both and its functions depend on your machine. On some PC bitdefender antivirus works very well and some PC kaspersky works very well. But AVG 8 is totally free and it's also a good antivirus. You can choice any of them:
