Question:

Name on the TGV ticket?

by  |  earlier

Just got TGV ticket delivered to me and I noticed that a name was printed on the ticket. It's not my name, but my co-traveller's. My concern is that I will do part of the trip myself alone.

So, my question is>

Is there any problem that it is not my name on the ticket?

Merci bien!

  1. Tickets sent by mail do not bear any name and can be used by anyone. Are you sure it's the ticket you are talking about or the receipt? (they are the same size and shape).

If you have one of these, you're fine: http://www.flickr.com/photos/tml/1965958...

Don't forget to have it stamped in one of the orange machines before boarding the train, otherwise it won't be valid.

They only ask for ID if :

    - you have an e-ticket that you printed yourself

    - or have a discount based on your age for which you need to justify your age.

If another person bought an e-ticket printed on white A4 paper for you and put THEIR name and date of birth instead of yours on it, then it won't be valid. E-tickets can only be used by the person whose name is on the ticket. Those cannot be changed or refunded. Here is what they look like : http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoimantif/2...

EDIT: OK, I just found the official answer on the train company website's FAQ page (question 7) about tickets sent home: it says that they put the name of the person who ordered the ticket but that the ticket can be used by anyone and that they don't check ID. http://www.voyages-sncf.com/leisure/fr/c...

"Les billets portent le nom de la personne ayant effectué la commande pour des raisons pratiques lors de l’envoi à domicile. Cependant, ils sont librement utilisables et les contrôleurs ne vérifient pas l’identité des porteurs des billets de train."

    Have a nice trip!
