My city accepts #1 and #2 plastics, aluminum and metal cans, magazines, plastic milk bottles, newspapers, magazines and glass jars and we have to pay for the service.

Wal-Mart accepts plastic shopping bags.

PetSmart accepts empty printer cartridges and uses the money for animal rescue.

Dell gives you a bag when you order printer cartridges so you can mail the empty ones to them.  I don't know what they do with them.

Our local 4-H accepts batteries, cell phones, but I prefer giving working cell phones to a woman's shelter.

Ronald McDonald House collects aluminum pull-tabs.

Just about anything can be recycled if you can find a place that will take the item.
