He isn&#039;t with us anymore so it&#039;s particularly not going to happen, but honestly if I could get a new record from anybody it would be Elliott Smith. From a Basement on the Hill was such a different record for him that it really makes me wonder where the train of thought would have gone next. I could analyze it down to another totally broken down one, ala his very early stuff. Maybe another record that featured a little more of a rock edge. Maybe another XO like record, a bigger production. He was dropped by dreamworks and the last record was a non sequitor. Really makes me wonder what it would have come out like. Plus, with Pavement you&#039;ve still got Steve Malkmus making records. With the Beatles, that ship sailed so long ago that it&#039;s pretty easy to put any curiosities to rest, plus there is a lot of Beatles material (although I would be incredibly excited to find that they had stored a new record in a time capsule to drop on us by complete surprise for it&#039;s 40th anniversary or something). Elliott Smith is still very fresh for me. I really hope they end up putting out a sort of New Moon 2 that has the later years. The first one only went up to the point in time between Either Or and XO.

Some bands that are never going to release another album, but I wish it were possible, include: Sublime, Jane&#039;s Addiction, Pantera, The Doors, Queen, Nirvana, the Ramones, Joy Division, and the Grateful Dead.
