  2. solid rock, cliffs, desert, barely half the land surface is livable.

    two thirds is water and only 11% grows the food for the world's people.

Too cold to sustain farming or foraging or hunting.  Like up in the NWT where the sudz are drunken and the fruit is shipped in and costs and arm and a leg.  Hunting is heavily legislated and the earth is a bloody wasteland of tundra that's even hard to walk on - and it's full of mosquitos.  NWT was inhospitable to me.

    Permafrost keeps the ground in the north consantly changing over the seasons in a strange rugged way.  Like an asphalt road with a gazillion pot holes that are disguised by bushy lichens and stuff to make it look flat.  Most homes are temporary or built on poles that are dug way deep into the ground.

    Nunavut I figure would be worse.  The Yukon is pretty nice though.  Wild chickens and stuff and trees that are at least thicker than my arm.
