  1. basically everyone on the red wings lol

  2. How about

    Patrick Roy (51)

    Sergei Federov (74)

    Marty Turco (124)

    Theoren Fleury (166)

    Luc Robitaille (171)

This stigma seems to affect the European players more than the North Americans perhaps because some scouts aren't sure if their skill will transfer to the NHL game. (Also some countries, including Finland, have obligatory military service. Some also had full-time jobs outside of hockey before coming to the nhl, like Teemu Selanne, former kindergarden teacher. Can you imagine where his stats would be if he'd come to North America at 18 and not 22?)

  3. Alfredsson - 6th round 133 overall

    Bondra - 8th round 156 overall

    Anson Carter - 10th round 220 overall

    Demitra - 9th round 227 overall

    Fleury - 8th round 166 overall

    Gilmour - 7th round 134 overall

    Hasek - 10th round 199 overall

    Brett Hull - 6th round 117overall

    Kaberle - 8th round 204 overall

    Khabibulin - 9th round 204 overall

    Luc Robitaille - 9th round 171 overall

    Zednik - 10th round 249 overall

  4. Evgeni Nabokov, Pavol Demitra, 9th round.

Martin Erat, Henrik Zetterberg, Henrik Lundqvist 7th round.

    Dominik Hasek, 10th round.

Undrafted:  Martin St. Louis, John Madden, Brian Rafalski, Jason Blake.

Reasoning?  7th round and higher and at that point, you don't really have the expectations from players drafted here as you do with the ones in the 1st and 2nd rounds.  Yet these guys have all made names for themselves in the league in different positive ways.

  5. My bad, corrections sorry.

Evgeni Nabokov - he was selected by San Jose in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft (9th round, 219th overall).

  6. A pair of undrafted players that were surprisingly not mentioned.

Dino Ciccarelli and a kid named Wayne Gretzky, some of you may have heard of him.

  7. Mike Bossy. drafted 14th in the first round. Not extremely low, but lots of teams passed him over. 9 consecutive 50 goal seasons. The first player since Richard to score 50 in 50.

4 cup rings, and one of the most sportsmanlike players ever.

Possibly the best right winger in NHL history since Howe.

  8. Yeah. Everybody on the Detroit Red Wings. All of them are basically late round draft picks (Lidstrom, Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Franzen, Filppula...)

    It's pretty crazy!

  9. Datsyuk & Zetterburg baby

  10. Zetterberg- need I say more?????

  11. Paul, Gretzky was undrafted because he wasn't in the Draft. Peter Puck owned him lock stock and barrel. If he had been available for the draft he would not have played for Edmonton. And history would have been quite different.

The WHA circumvented the NHL draft rules and took Gretzky and a number of other players who weren't eligible to be drafted because the NHL restricted the Draft to players in their 20th year. A number of promising Juniors jumped to the WHA. Most of the others were subsequently drafted into the NHL when the merger took place. Gretzky was separately excluded from the merger draft.

  12. How about:

Daniel Alfredsson (drafted 133rd overall in 1994)

    Mikka Kiprusoff (drafted 116th overall)

    Dominic Hasek (drafted 199th overall)

    Pavel Bure (drafted 113th overall)

    Alex Mogilny (drafted 89th overall)

  13. Henrik Zetterberg

    Pavel Datsyuk

    Pavol Demitra

    Evgeni Nabokov
