Question:

Name suggestions for this character?

I'm a writer and I can't seem to think of a name for a character I'm working on. I've just started to develop her so I don't know *everything* about her yet, but here's what I have so far:

She's 15/16 years old, around 5' 5" with short, spiky, white-blonde hair and dark brown eyes. She is quirky, with a dry sense of humor, and is a bit mischievous, finding it hard to sit still for very long. She cares very little about what people think of her and marches to the beat of her own drummer. She likes anything that others might consider 'weird', and has a suprising amount of opinions for someone so laid-back.

So, any suggestions? I have a few names in mind, but I'd like to hear what others picture for her.

Something unique and just as quirky as she is, but still pretty, if you wouldn't mind.

Thanks for your help!

  9. Honestly, when someone asks for suggestions on a name and they put a description of the character, it doesn't help. Finding the perfect name for a character has nothing to do with their description. It has more to do with their personality; that's how you're going to find a nice lasting name that fits perfectly. Once you know your character, you're going to find a name that fits her just right.

Go to behindthename.com and in the search box, pick meaning and put in one quality that sums her up. You might be surprised by the great names you get that could fit her perfectly.

And don't worry about finding a name right away. There are authors who don't use names until they're done or others who end up using one name and then changing it completely after they're done with the novel.

Example: I typed in happy since she seems to be happy with herself and her life from the description you provided and got: http://www.behindthename.com/php/search....

    Good luck!

Here are my suggestions since you asked for some: Elysia, Taylor, Alayna, Annora, Aura, Aubry, Beverly, Blair, Brianna, Camille, Cate...

Edit: I'm just saying that describing the character won't always get you an answer that fits just right. You have to know your character to know what name will fit them just right; I know that's the way it is with me and other writers. Anyway, good luck! My answer wasn't supposed to be rude or offensive, if you found it that way.
