That would be a snack. Although, I call it supper, not dinner.

In Australia tea is what working class people call dinner. But in Britain tea is a small but substantial meal usually containng little or no meat eaten between about 4.00-5.00pm.

It was designed to stave off middle class Victorian family's hunger pangs while they waited for their patriarch to return from the mill or factory he ran.

They could not have the proper evening meal without him so the younger children were put to bed after tea and the older ones waited up with their mother for pa to slice the lamb roast.

Now I believe that afternoon meal is called over eating
