Someone gave me this plant and it's growing like crazy. Can anyone tell me what kind of plant it is? Is there a way that I can trim it to make multiple plants?

  1. In India it is called money plant

  2. I think it is a type of philodendron.  You can start a new plant by cutting a portion off the stem (cut the bottom off but leave a few leaves).  If you put the cut stem into water for a few days it should get a brownish bud looking thing.  If you then plant it in dirt (the brownish thing will become the root) it should grow.   I've done this a few times and it usually works.

  3. it looks like pothos.  it is a vine.

if you cut it it will branch off where it was cut.  you can put the cuttings in water to make new plants.  plant them all together to make a thicker looking plant.

you night want to get one of those mossy stakes and replant it with it, but it is a trailing plant and no matter where you cut it, the new growth will grow long.  keep the growth going with good sunshine and plenty of water.  the leaves should get larger as time goes by.

i have one that is real old that was several plants that i looped around the pot and put some of the ends back in soil to root there.  kind of secured these with a bent paper clip.  it was about 8 ft long, but i whacked it even about three and put the cuttings in water for new plants.

these plants are hardy and can take abuse as long as the stem doesn't start to shrivel if you forget to water it.

  4. What you have in your possession is a plant called "Jade Pothos" in a common man's language .

The scientific name is Epipremnum aureum ( There are a few Synonyms, But ignore them to avoid confusion ). It is also called -

Silver Vine, Money Plant and Devil's Ivy.

It needs to be well watered and well shaded. Leaves vary from cream to very dark green.

There are several cultivars with various amounts of variegation, including:-------

1)‘Golden Pothos' has golden, yellow-green variegated leaves.

2)‘Jade’ is a solid dark green type which does well in low light areas.

3 )"Lime' has bright yellow-green leaves.

4 )‘Marble Queen’ has stems and moss green leaves streaked with white.

5 )'Neon' has all yellow leaves.

6)‘Tricolor’ the off-white stems and leaves are variegated with white.

Your plant has dark green foliage so it is ' Jade Pothos '( At No. 2 above )
