  1. I'm a 3rd generation quilter and I've never seen that pattern before either. It looks as tho the person who made it was being artistic for the times and made a simple wreath.  All they had to work with mostly were feed sacks. Your right about the wonderful wedding present.

  2. It Is appliqued as I can see the underlying fabrics..It looks like some kind of star quilt pattern..Very Pretty. This could be done with non-woven fusible applique and be a very beautful center piece for any quilt.

  3. Wow, that's a tough one. I've never seen anything like it before. I just flipped through a quilt block computer program called Block Base and I couldn't find anything exactly like it. The closest I found is this one called Pinwheel (sorry, I know it isn't terribly original) that was printed in the Kansas City Star (a newspaper) in 1934. This star has only six points, not eight, and it splits each arm rather than using a solid fabric for it. Still, the basic construction is very similar. The same block is featured on the cover of the May/June 2008 Fons & Porter's Love of Quilting Magazine, and they call the quilt Spin Wheel.

  4. I have never seen that pattern before.  You might want to type in quilt blocks and then look at them.

  5. Being from Alabama, I found out in the early 70s many of our names of blocks differ from the rest of the country.

The name for the block" Moors Tile"  is what I was taught.

  6. The Star ;)))
