What do you think about naming kids after songs?

Like...

Lucy (Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds by The Beatles.)

Michelle (Michelle by The Beatles.)

Julia (Julia by The Beatles.)

Angie (The Stones.)

or something like Jagger (after Mick Jagger.)

I wanted to name my daughter Lucy (my favorite song), but my girlfriend wanted Rachel so we decided on Rachel Michelle.

But still, what do you think?

  1. Lucy Diamond from I am sam, the movie also Jolene after song, or Janie "janie's got a gun, aerosmith"  I like Klapton or Jimmi for girls names for obvious musicians, and you know? it is hip and mod..not a huge fan of Mick's but if you are, same thing applies

  2. Layla (Eric Clapton)?

  3. Delilah (hey there Delilah)

    Jesse (Jesse's Girl)

  4. My mom got my name both from the Bible and from the song "Ah Leah" from some old-timey band that she used to listen to lol. And I love my name.

  5. You should have named her Rachel Lucy, but Lucy Rachel is prettier.

And if you really like a song I say you name them after it.

  6. I think it is nice to grow up knowing that your parents not only picked your name because they liked it, but also because it had special meaning to them.  It makes a pleasant story  to tell.  I'm talking about "accepted" names, not Chevy Backseat or Trojan Fayld!

However, I *do*  think it is important that you like the name, even without the song, and that the song has a pleasant association with the name.    For example, I love the name  Roxana, and I like the Police song "Roxanne."  However, the song is about a prostitute.  There are a couple of others that come to mind (one about anorexia, another about cocaine).

My daughter is Maria, and she likes having "her song" ("Maria" from West Side Story).

Although you didn't ask, my favourite song-name combination would be Adriana ("My Pretty Little Adriana" by Vince Gill).

  7. I think it only enhances the already joyful experience of having a kid. I want to name my daughter Ayla after the girl from my favorite book, Clan of the Cave Bears, but my husband hates it so maybe we'll do Johanna from my second favorite book, Bag of Bones.

  8. Lucy, Michelle, Julia and Angie are already names, but if you would want to name a child AFTER a specific song.. make sure you don't grow to like something else.

  9. Rhiannon!!!

  10. I was named after

    The Bachelor's record

    "Diane"

Rachel Michelle is a gorgeous name

    xx

  11. I LOVE the name Jagger. I know a little boy with that name and I absolutely LOVE it! Lucy, Michelle, Julia, and Angie are all "normal" names and no one would associate the names with the song unless you told them. I think it's a good idea...then you have a story for your child about where their name came from.
