Combined team efforts with both bat and ball enabled the Sri Lanka Under-19s to clinch an emphatic 195-run win over the Namibia Under-19s during the 10th match of the ongoing ICC Under-19 World Cup 2012, played at the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Allan-Robert-Border-c43726 Field in Brisbane
today on August 13.
Having won the toss and opted to bat first, the Sri Lanka Under-19s’s innings featured solid performances by the top order which put the team on steady ground, enabling them to post a total of 298 by the end of 50 overs, despite the assaults of Zhivago Groenewald
(9-1-49-3) and Wian van Vuuren (10-0-65-2).
The Sri Lanka U-19s opened their innings with Sebastian Perera (who won the Player of the Match award for his score of 69) and Pabasara Waduge (39), who joined forces to establish a 104-run partnership. Stephan Baard broke it up in the 21st over,
sending Waduge back to the pavilion, but his successor Niroshan Dickwella (38) did not allow the team’s momentum to flag.
He set up a 34-run partnership with Perera, and following Perera’s dismissal at the hands of Luke http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bolton-c48217 in the 27th over, proceeded to establish a 72-run partnership with Sandun Weerakkody (50).
By the 38th over, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 had reached 210, and Dickwella was finally dislodged by Groenewald, who also claimed the wicket of Weerakkody in the 40th over. Lahiru Madushanka (45) made a brave attempt to help the team continue their
steady accumulation of runs, but the individual scores dwindled as the Sri Lanka U-19s moved lower down the batting order.
Angelo Jayasinghe (10) and Pulina Tharanga (13) were both dismissed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Robert-Cowdrey-c60631 Vuuren after meagre contributions, while skipper Sanitha de Mel (9), Tharindu Kaushal (1), and Anuk Fernando (2*) all failed to reach double digits, with their team eventually finishing
at 298.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Namibia-c2964 found themselves unequal to the chase, and faced with the attacks of Madushanka (6-0-15-4), Kaushal (9-0-19-2), and Amila Aponso (6-1-17-2), the team collapsed, all out, at 103.
Opener van Vuuren (38) remained the top scorer for his side, while the remainder of the batting order found themselves unable to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adrian-Roger-Kirshaw-Pierson-c42135 it out at the crease. Justin Baard (11) and wicketkeeper batsman Gerhard Erasmus (26) remained the only other two batsmen
who managed to contribute double digit individual scores, while three batsmen were dismissed on duck – skipper Stephan Baard, Malan Kruger, and Christopher Coombe.
Unable to face up to the Lankan bowling attack, Namibia were eventually bowled out for 103 by the end of the 35th over – 195 runs short of their target.
