Namibia Under-19s v West Indies Under-19s – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Under-19 World Cup (Warm-Up Match) – Match Update
Opener Sunil Ambris’ century, followed by a combined assault from pacers Ronsford Beaton and Marquino Mindley, enabled the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 Under-19s to claim a massive 146-run win over the Namibia Under-19s in their ICC Under-19 World Cup warm-up match at the
University No 2 Oval in Brisbane on August 8.
The West Indies U-19s won the toss and elected to bat first, with Keiron Joseph (30) and Ambris (103) opening the innings for their side, and getting the team off to a flying start with a solid 91-run opening stand. Joseph found himself caught out by Namibian
skipper Stephan Baard off Luke http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bolton-c48217 in the 19th over, but Ambris soldiered on till the 30th over, getting his side up to 155 after which he retired out.
Skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/John-Argentine-Campbell-c67325 (78), however, did not allow the innings to falter, following his 64-run stand with Ambris up with a 3rd wicket 85-run partnership with Anthony Alleyne (68). The stand came to an end in the 40th over, with the
dismissal of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Campbell-c49176 off Christopher Coombe, followed soon after, in the 42nd over, with Kavem Hodge (10) being run out by Coombe.
By this point, the Windies were on solid ground, at 257 for 4, and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Amir-Khan-c43996 (5*) all chipped in with useful contributions to get the team up to 328 by the end of 50 overs.
In response, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/January-Jackowiak-c66372 Coetzee scored a valiant half-ton, but was unable to receive any support from the rest of the batting order. Faced with the pace of Beaton (9-0-43-4) and Mindley (9-2-18-3), the Namibia Under-19s collapsed, all out, at 182.
Beaton dismissed the opening pair – Wian http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Robert-Cowdrey-c60631 Vuuren (4) and Justin Baard (8) – by the 3rd over, although number three batsman Coetzee (89) proved harder to dislodge. Beaton claimed a 3rd wicket in the 9th over, sending Stephan
Baard back to the pavilion on 16.
Malan Kruger (35) proved to be a more resilient batsman, and his 4th-wicket 78-run partnership with Coetzee got the Namibians up to 119 by the 32nd over, coming to an end with Kruger’s run out.
The remainder of the batting order failed to serve as effective partners for Coetzee, and following his dismissal in the 46th over at the hands of Mindley, Namibia moved steadily towards defeat, finishing at 182 by the end of 47 overs – 146 runs
away from their target.
