Namibia Under-19s v Zimbabwe Under-19s – ICC Under-19 World Cup 2012 – (15th Place Play-off) – Match Update
Half-centuries by Matthew Bentley and Ryan Burl, followed by 3-wicket hauls from Luke Jongwe and Peacemore Zimwa, enabled the Zimbabwe Under-19s to clinch a 70-run win over the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Under-19 World Cup 2012 15th Place Play-off
match, at the WEP http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Harris-c61739 Oval in Brisbane, today on August 23.
The Zimbabwe U-19s won the toss and elected to bat first, with Kieran Geyle (5) and Luke Masasire (2) opening for their side. The innings got off to a shaky start, as Jason Davidson (9-2-26-3) intervened to sweep both batsmen off the pitch by the 5th
over.
However a 3rd-wicket 62-run stand between wicketkeeper batsman Kevin Kasuza (33) and skipper Bentley (67) steadied the innings, and was followed by a mammoth 113-run partnership between Bentley and Burl (who won the Player of the Match award for
his 78) after Kasuza was sent packing by Bredell Wessells (6-0-38-2).
Their efforts got their team up to 185 by the 41st over, after which Bentley’s wicket was also picked up by Wessells. Malcolm Lake (6) joined Burl for a 19-run stand, but Shalako Groenewald stepped in to dismiss Lake, and Burl was also dislodged
by Christopher Coombe (8-0-65-2) in the 45th over, leaving their side at 210 for 6.
The remainder of the batting order chipped in with meagre contributions, and by the end of 50 overs, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wellington-c864 Masakadza (6*) and Curthbert Musoko (1*) at the crease, the Zimbabwe U-19s finished at a healthy total of 236.
Following their batting performance, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 U-19s succeeded in effectively defending their total, courtesy Jongwe (6.5-1-29-3), Zimwa (9-1-47-3), and Masakadza (8-0-26-2), all of whom did not allow the Namibian batsmen to settle in at the crease.
Michau du Preez and Zhivago Groenewald were both dismissed on duck, and Gerhard Erasmus remained the top scorer for his side, with a contribution of 32 runs. Batsmen such as Davidson (17) and Luke http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bolton-c48217 (21) only managed to get starts, and by the 41st
over, the Namibia U-19s were all out, at 166 – 70 runs short of the target.
The victory sees the Zimbabwe U-19s exiting the competition after having secured the 15th place in the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2012.
