Namibia overcame http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bermuda-c2853 convincingly by 86 runs in a match of the ICC World Cricket League Division Two played at the ICC Global Cricket Academy Ground in Dubai on Tuesday.
The African team piled on 297 runs in their allotted 50 overs and bowled Bermuda out for 211.
Namibia captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Craig-Williams-c51765 won the toss and elected to bat first. The pitch was dry and did not have any pace in it making the conditions perfect for batting in the first half of the game.
Bermuda got the early breakthrough in the match, as the Namibian opener Jan-Berrie Burger was sent back to the pavilion in the second over of the match. The right-handed batsman failed to trouble the scorers as he was out off the very first ball of his innings.
First-drop Sarel Burger walked out in the middle to join opening batsman Ewald Steenkamp. The pair was put under pressure, but they did not lose focus at all. They batted sensibly and put together 155 runs for the second wicket. Steenkamp got out in the
37th over of the innings after scoring a terrific 87 runs off 119 balls. He struck 7 fours and one massive six in his brilliant knock.
Sarel Burger struggled initially in his innings, but managed to score a steady half-century in the match. He faced 105 balls for his 59 runs and hit one four and a six.
The top-order had laid a solid platform for the team and the Namibian captain made the most of it. He played a thunderous innings of 74 runs off just 35 balls, smashing 4 fours and 7 sixes in the process. The blistering innings from Williams guided the African
team to 297, which seemed very unlikely at one stage of the innings.
Rodney Trott was impressive with the ball for Bermuda, as he took two wickets in the match and did not give away many runs.
Bermuda required a solid start to their innings in order to chase down almost six runs an over.
Opener Dion Stovell did a terrific job for his team, as he played aggressively at the top of the order. He scored 73 runs off just 67 balls with the help of 10 fours and 3 big sixes. However, none of the other top-order batsmen was able to support Stovell.
Bermuda were 113 for the loss of 6 wickets in 18.3 overs and it seemed as if they would be bowled out within 150 runs. However, middle-order batsman Lionel Cann scored a solid half-century, rescuing his team from disaster. He scored 53 runs from 56 balls,
hitting 2 fours and 4 huge sixes.
Cann’s effort went in vain though, as his team was bundled up in the 43rd over of their innings. The match could have been interesting had Bermuda kept some wickets in hand for the death overs.
Left-arm spinner Louis van der Westhuizen was in destructive form, as he grabbed 4 wickets for just 14 runs in 6.3 overs.
