http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Namibia-c2964 secured an 8-wicket win against Canada in the ICC Intercontinental Cup in a first-class match played at the Wanderers Cricket Ground in Windhoek from April 5-8.
Namibia won the toss and chose to field. Canada’s first innings were opened by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Helao-Nafidi-Ya-France-c62179 off Louis
Klazinga in the 5th over. Another loss followed in the 6th over, as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Craig-David-Williams-c51678 on 1.
Zeeshan Siddiqi managed to rescue his team, contributing 87 runs, and establishing a 22-run partnership with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JM-Anderson-c1705 Hansra’s (1) wicket, but was powerless
to nip Siddiqui-Tyson Gordon's 5th wicket partnership in the bud. Their 112 run-stand was finally cut short when Burger eliminated Siddiqui in the 55th over, and by this time the Canadians were at 158 for 5.
Captain Rizwan Cheema (47) and Junaid Siddiqui (38) managed to offer the sagging batting order some support, with a 55-run 8th wicket stand, and the Canadians finished their first innings at 274.
Burger remained the most prominent Namibian bowler in the first innings, claiming 4 for 42, while http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Williams-c98034 managed 3 for 68. Ian Opperman was particularly economical, claiming 1 at the expense of 19 in 11 overs.
Namibia’s first innings was opened by Ewald Steenkamp (22) and Ya http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Durand-Soraine-c54799 - adjudged plumb by the standing umpire. The star of the innings was Burger, who scored an impressive 135 and established a 107-run stand with
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Raymond-van-Schoor-c84385 (71) before he was dismissed by Rizwan Cheema in the 92nd over. By then, Namibia were at 294 for 7, and tail-enders such as Opperman (35) and Gerhard Erasmus (40) succeeded in bringing their side up to 374, leaving their opponents
trailing by 100.
Soraine’s 4 for 66 remained the best performance among the Canadian bowlers, while Junaid Siddiqui (31-7-81-3) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rizwan-Cheema-c2328 (16-3-43-2) also chipped in with useful contributions.
In Canada’s second innings, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zeeshan-Hussain-Siddiqi-c98583 once again remained the highest scorer for his side, with an unbeaten 73. Kumar (31), Hansra (25), and Cheema (26) also managed to contribute a respectable number of runs, but the remaining batsmen were mediocre,
and the Canadians ended at 213, setting the Namibians a 114 target.
Namibia’s Christi Viljoen shone during Canada’s second innings, claiming an impressive 7 for 61, while Opperman managed 2 for 36.
The 114 target proved to be an easy one for the Namibians, who got there at the expense of a mere 2 wickets. Steenkamp (60) and Ya France (31) set up an 86-run opening stand, after which the latter was sent back to the pavilion in the 21st over.
After Steenkamp’s dismissal in the 25th over, the Namibians had reached 113, and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gerrie-Snyman-c59913 (18) got the team to 119, securing an 8-wicket win for his side.
Gunasekera (4-0-18-2) was the only player who managed to make any dents in the batting order – the other bowlers were lackluster and ineffective.
