In the International Cricket Council (ICC) Intercontinental Cup four-day match between Canada and hosts Namibia, the home side belted an astounding total of 374 runs in their first innings on Saturday, April 07, at Wanderers Cricket Ground, Windhoek.
Meanwhile, Canada were not intimidated by this hefty total and batted with zeal to post 167 runs for the loss of seven wickets at stumps on the third day of play, gaining a lead by 67 runs with three wickets in hand.
Earlier, Namibia resumed their first innings with SF Burger unbeaten on 135 runs and I Opperman on 34 after the side ended the second day with a massive tally of 293 runs. And with a tall score on the board, Namibia were confident in posting a mammoth tally by the end of their innings.
However, the third day failed to bring them the same luck they carried a day earlier, as after the addition of just one run in the tally, they suffered the loss of their first wicket of the day with the demise of Burger, who perished without adding a run to his overnight score.
This wicket was a big blow to the team as the batsman had played a remarkable tally a day earlier, and could have gone on to post a humungous score on the card.
A run later, they also lost Opperman, who went after adding just a run on the third day. With both overnight batsmen back in the pavilion, Namibia had to reconstruct their batting all over again.
It was then time for wicketkeeper/batsman, Gerhard Erasmus, to shine as he belted a remarkable innings of 40 runs off 111 deliveries to help his side amass 374 runs by the end of their innings.
With their second turn to bat, Canada started off the innings tentatively to overcome Namibia’s 100-run lead.
However, along the way the Canadians lost wickets at crucial juncture, nonetheless, they finished the day on achieving a lead of 67 runs over the hosts after losing seven wickets.
