Namibia v Canada - ICC World Cricket League Championship (23rd match) – Match recap – Canada secure 2-wicket win
Canada defeated Namibia by 2-wickets in the 23rd match of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Cricket League Championship, played at the Wanderers Cricket Ground in Windhoek on April 10.
Canada won the toss and Captain Rizwan Cheema elected to field. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/H-Osinde-c1518 before he had a chance to make any contributions, and
the remaining top order was just as disappointing.
Captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Craig-David-Williams-c51678 was dismissed on duck on the very next delivery by the Canadian pacer, and Opperman fell prey to Osinde in the 9th over.
The Namibian batting order appeared to have all but collapsed, at 16 for 4, but http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Raymond-van-Schoor-c84385 (90) teamed up for a 55-run 5th wicket partnership, which got their side up to 71 after which Snyman was sent back to the
pavilion by Soraine. Louis van der Westhuizen chipped in with a useful 19 runs, which, combined with van Schoor’s contributions, propelled the team to 102 by the 26th over.
The highest partnership of the match was between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Robert-Cowdrey-c60631 Schoor and Christi Viljoen (33) – a 70-run stand which got the Namibians up to 174 by the 44th over. However, the team was cut off in the 48th over at 183, all out.
The Canadian bowling attack was particularly effective. In addition to Osinde (10-2-46-2) and Soraine (8-2-25-3), http://www.senore.com/Cricket/H-Patel-c1519 all managed to pick up one scalp each.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zeeshan-Hussain-Siddiqi-c98583 (7), Kumar (5), Junaid Siddiqui
(11) and Rizwan Cheema (3). Otherwise, most batsmen contributed respectable scores, among them http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rustam-Ali-Bhatti-c87237 (23), and most prominently Hansra, who top-scored for his side with 49.
A last 9th wicket 35-run partnership between Bhatti and Soraine (12) proved to be the team’s saving grace, and got the Canadians comfortably up to 184 by the 49th over, enabling them to secure a 2-wicket victory over their opponents.
Burger and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Canada-c748 gained two match points, and the next match between the two teams will be played on April
12 at the same venue.
