Namibia has achieved the most glorious victory of their history after beating http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kenya-c752 by a huge margin of 169 runs today, July 13, 2011, at Lugogo Cricket Oval, Kampala, in a match of ICC Africa Region Division One T20 tournament, thanks to the marvelous 159-run
knock by Louis van der Westhuizen.
Winning the toss, Namibia elected to bat first. Louis http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Craig-David-Williams-c51678 opened the innings in a tremendous way. Both the player flexed their muscles to build up a long and strong partnership of 94 runs in just 7.4 overs.
The morals of Kenyan bowlers were badly shattered by the opening duo. The skipper, Kennedy Ochieng, was changing one bowler after another in order to wreck the dashing pair.
At last, Raj Shikotra succeeded in containing http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Short-c90107 of just 8 runs to complete his fifty.
It was the first and last wicket that the Kenyan got. The remaining 12 overs proved to be very costly for them as Westhuizen was joined by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sarel-Francois-Burger-c88808, the one-down batsman, to cause huge damage to the rivals.
Westhuizen and Burger exceeded all limits of Excellency and set new records in the history od domestic T20 cricket. The duo proved to be a rock-solid fortress and the eight rival bowlers failed to scare them.
They lasted till the last ball of the innings and forged a record, unbeaten partnership of 168 runs. Burger scored 53 from 30 deliveries with the help of 4 boundaries and 1 six.
Westhuizen was resplendent with aggression and passion as he achieved the best feat of his cricket career. His 159 runs off just 70 balls are the highest in the known history of the T20 cricket.
Glittering every over with boundaries and cracking shots, Westhuizen hit 16 sixes and 7 fours. His ruthless zeal showed that he would made double ton but the give quota of 20 overs ended.
Namibia piled up 262 runs for 1 wicket.
In the bowling line-up of Kenya, only Shikotra took a wicket. None of the other seven bowlers managed to trouble the batsmen.
After the lunch break, Kenya started their innings with a mammoth target of 263 runs to chase down. The start was shoddy as the first wicket fell on 18 and the second was wrecked on 38, while the third batsman went away after adding just 10 more runs.
When Kenya had lost their top three wickets for just 49 runs, the prospects of the defeat became clear. The next batsmen, playing under severe pressure, proved to be wall of sand before the mighty bowlers of Namibia.
In the middle-order, Joseph Ochieng and Kennedy Ochieng scored 13 and 2 respectively. The lower order was also unimpressive as none of them could make double figures except Harrison Angila who made 16 runs off 7 balls.
Thus, Kenya could total only 93 runs for 8 wickets in the 20 overs.
