Namibia cruised to a six wicket win over Nigeria in a match of the ICC Africa Region Division Twenty20 played at the Kyambogo Cricket Ground, Kampala today, July 12, 2011
Setting a small target of 89, Namibia completed the rout in just under thirteen overs, losing 4 wickets in the process.
It was the Nigerian captain, Endurance Ofem, who won the toss and elected to bat first. However, nothing went as planned as Nigeria lost wickets at an alarming rate.
The start was circumspect with openers, Ademola Onikoyi and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yashpal-Sharma-c98225, having no answer to some good Namibian bowling. Unable to get the bowlers away, pressure mounted, which resulted in wickets falling in quick succession.
The first to go was Onikoyi, who made 3 off 14 deliveries. It was the 5th over of the match and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nigeria-c2970 had only posted 12 on the board.
The next wicket was of Sharma, who too played slowly for his 16, consuming double the amount of deliveries.
From there on, no Nigerian batter was able to take on the Namibian bowling. Most astonishing fact of the match was that only one batsman scored more than a run a ball. It came from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Olajide-Bejide-c80157, who played a cameo of 15 from 9 balls, which included 3 boundaries.
The next highest strike rate was 60.60 by Ramit Gill, who remained unbeaten on 20 off 33 balls. Ironically, he was also the highest scorer for the Nigerian side. After Gill, the next best performance was undoubtedly by the Nigerian bowlers, who gave an astounding,
19 extras in the match.
At the end of their 20 overs, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Namibia-c2964 could only post 88 for the loss of 7 wickets.
Namibian bowlers were top notch, as all took perfect use of the conditions to dismantle the Nigerian batting line-up.
The pick of the bowlers were Louis http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Helao-Nafidi-Ya-France-c62179, who grabbed a brace each.
As the Namibian openers came out to bat, their intent was evident with skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Craig-David-Williams-c51678, leading from the front. He smashed the ball to all parts of the park, showing Nigerian’s the orthodox way of playing the shorter version of cricket.
His innings of 34 from 17 deliveries was well compiled and gave the crowd something to cheer about. He was well supported by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sarel-Francois-Burger-c88808 who too played well for his 23.
When http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nicholaas-Reimert-Petrus-Scholtz-c79326, who remained unbeaten on 6.
Namibia completed the rout in 12.3 overs for the loss of 4 wickets. For Nigeria, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Endurance-Ofem-c56012 bowled well with figures of 2-18.
Namibia, with a hundred percent winning record, sits pretty at the top of the points table. As for Nigeria, they languish at third place with only a solitary win.
