Namibia 120 v Oman 84 - Namibia won by 36 runs
The 48th match in the ongoing International Cricket Council (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625) World Twenty20 Qualifier saw Namibia beat Oman by 36 runs at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, on Monday, March 19, 2012.
Oman, are a complete mess in the current tournament, where they have found it extremely difficult to give a strong opposition to the teams they have faced.
Oman fans hoping for their team’s fortunes to change, came to watch the match; however, things went awry for their side early on as they lost the toss and were forced to field in the blistering sun.
However, they had a lucky breakthrough as they dismissed Namibia’s star opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Raymond-van-Schoor-c84385, who perished on one run with his team on a tally of two.
Then a run later, Namibia suffered the loss of their second wicket when their ace performer, Louis http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Robert-Cowdrey-c60631 der Westhuizen, who had come in at number-three, was sent back without troubling the scorers.
Oman had launched an unexpected bowling onslaught that surprised Namibia and had them in trouble early on.
With 48 runs on the board, the side had lost five of their crucial batsmen and were looking to falter on a meagre tally.
Things went from bad to worse when with 77 runs on the board they lost their sixth wicket as batsman Ian Opperman fell after scoring 14 runs.
Meanwhile, skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sarel-Francois-Burger-c88808 clobbered an innings of 53 runs to humble Oman and help his side post a respectable total of 120 runs.
Needing 121 runs to win, Oman’s batting line-up once again faltered like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Namibia-c2964’s bowling attack was just too tough for them to handle.
By the time they posted 30 runs on the board, they had already lost three wickets and were not looking aggressive at all.
Pacer Christi Viljoen and Burger launched a staggering bowling attack with Viljoen bagging four and the Namibian skipper securing three wickets to leave Oman in utter disbelief.
After the collapse of the opening order, Oman suffered the same fate in the lower-order as the batsmen failed to score runs.
It was only the middle-order that tried to put up a fight, but that lacked the sting needed to chase the required tally and in the end http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Oman-c2975 fell after scoring only 84 runs on the board in 18.4 overs.
Burger was named as the Player of the Match.
