Namibian Beach Volleyball teams leave for Mozambique
The Namibian Volleyball Federation (NVF) has stated that beach volleyball teams from Namibia will leave for Maputo, Mozambique tomorrow, Thursday, July 14. A total of four Namibian Beach Volleyball pairs, two male and two female, are scheduled to take part in the upcoming Zonal phase of the Confederation Africaine de Volleyball (CAVB) Continental Beach Volleyball Cup. According to the announced schedule of CAVB, this particular qualifying tournament will be held from July 15-17.
The following four teams will represent Namibia in the zonal-phase tournament:

Men’s teams

Rector Mbeha and Mwita Sikopo
Heiko Diehl and Joel Matheus

Women’s teams

Anita Kinder and Simone von Wietersheim
Karin Curschmann and Julia Laggner

Namibia is officially placed in Group E in the Continental Cup. The other group members are South Africa, Swaziland, Mauritius, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, Zambia, Malawi and hosts Mozambique. Lesotho and Botswana have not confirmed their participation in the tournament as of yet.
Previously, the Zonal Phase of Group A teams was held in Sierra Leone. Teams from seven African countries participated in the competition. Moroccan teams worked out a good performance in both gender categories and advanced to the next stage. Following the same formula, Group E teams will go through the same procedure. Two top teams from men’s and women’s competition will earn qualifications into the next round.
Namibia has ambitions to overpower their opponents and finish in the top four of the tournament. That is why the President of Namibian Volleyball Federation (NVF), Heiko Diehl, has urged the participating Namibian players to bring out their best for the tournament. He shared his thoughts and said, “I believe South Africa will once again be the team to beat, after they won both the Continental Cup Sub-Zonal as well as the All Africa Games Qualification Tournament earlier this year. A place on the podium for the Namibian teams and with that the qualification for the next phase is however realistic.”
Mr Heiko Kesselmann is travelling with the Namibian athletes as Team Manager and hopes to bring back good results.
