my book doesn't explain anything!

Sodium Hypochlorite

Sodium is Na+ and Hypochlorite according to the chart is ClO-

this should be simple..... my answer is NaClO, while the book says the answer is NaOCl

i have no idea why and the books fails to explain why the O comes before the CL

  1. O comes before Cl due to O form bonding with Na and Cl at the same time, but Na and Cl do not have direct bonding. O form ionnic bond with Na with Na transfer 1 electron to O. O also form covalent bond with Cl by sharing electrons (1 electron from Cl and 1 electron from O).
