Naming Ionic Compounds?

Write the names of the following Ionic Compounds:

HCl (aq)

Would this just be Hydrochloric Acid? Does the aqueous change anything?

  1. yes... u can simply call it hydrochloric acid or even called it aqueous hydrochloric acid

    aqueous means nothing but water

    it wont really make a diff.. but all acids show their acidic behaviour only when they are in aqueous state. in other words, ionic compounds can dissociate into ions only when they are either in aqueous or molten state, so they show the properties only in those 2 states

  3. Hydrochloric acid is correct. Yes the (aq) does change something, that's why it's hydrochloric acid, if it wasn't aqueous it would be hydrogen chloride.
